    Questions on:

    Joining the register:

I don’t have a work email address/work phone number. Can I still join the register?

Yes you can still join the register. However, for security reasons we’ll need to check that you’re a staff member/volunteer. When you fill in the joining form, your details will automatically be sent to the Car Pooling Register administrator, who’ll check your identity using the information you provide. Once the administrator is satisfied that you’re a genuine employee, you’ll then be emailed a link to confirm your registration in the usual way. You should bear in mind that using personal contact details is less safe than using your work contact details.

    I don’t have a car. Can I still join the register ?

Yes you can still join the register. There may be a driver searching for someone to share the costs of their travel who would be happy to share their car with you.

    Searching the register:

How do I search for someone to car pool with?

First join the car pooling register and ensure you’re logged in. Next, complete the form on the Search the register page and click the Search button. Anyone with a match to your search criteria will be displayed and you can choose whether to make contact with them.

I’ve searched the register and found no matches. What can I do?

Start by widening your search. There are 2 main ways to do this: 1. Search again using a suburb/postcode near to yours. 2. Search again using a suburb/postcode through or near which you travel to work. If you still don’t find a match, try again in a few weeks when there may be more new members on the register.

    When you’ve found a match:

I’ve found an entry on the register that seems a good match. What should I do now? First click Send an enquiry next to the match details to see if the person is interested in car pooling with you. If so, you’ll receive an email with their contact details. Next make contact and check that both of your personal circumstances are a good match. Then arrange to meet to see if you’re comfortable with the person and finally make arrangements for when to start.

When you’ve found someone to car pool with:

I already car pool with someone. Can I still join the register? By all means. If you’d like to find a third or fourth person to share with, this is the ideal place to do so.

I’ve found someone I’d like to car pool with. What do I do now?

You first need to apply for a Green Commuter Car Park permit to benefit from the reduced price parking and to get access to this car park, which is exclusively available to car poolers and ‘green’ commuters. Click here to download the form. Click here for a guide on good car pooling etiquette, including making financial arrangements, what to do in the case of someone being ill/on holiday and what to do about potential irritants such as listening to music, smoking, etc.

Someone I know works at another hospital close by, eg PMH, KEMH, and we’d like to share a car. Can I still park in the Green Commuter Car Park?

The Green Commuter Car Park is limited to car poolers who are based on or regularly come to the QEII Medical Centre site. Therefore if one of you works on the QEII Medical Centre site and one works elsewhere, you won’t be able to get access. However, if you join the register you may be able to find another QEII Medical Centre site user to share with and then you would be eligible for access.

    Changing your registered details

My personal details have changed. How do I change my entry on the register? Simply go to the Edit or remove your details page and confirm that you want to edit your entry. You will then be able to edit all the details you registered with us, before confirming the change.

    Leaving the register

I’ve found someone to car pool with. How do I take my name off the register? First of all, consider whether you would be happy to travel with a third person or even a fourth? This could reduce your costs even further. If so, consider leaving your name on the register. Secondly, if you’ve found a car pooler to share only part of your travel with, you may want to stay on the register to find another car pooler to travel with on other days or at other times. If neither of these situations apply to you, simply log in and go the Edit your times or un-publish your details, this will confirm that you want to remove your entry from the car pooling register and you will not be seen in any search results.
