1. Join the register
To get access to the car pooling register, you first need to fill in our simple registration form with a few details including your name, work email address and work phone number. We’ll never give out any of your personal details to anyone without your prior permission.
2. Confirmation email
Once you’ve registered, we’ll send you a link in an email to confirm that you want to join. This helps us to check your identity for security reasons and ensure you’re not registered by someone else without your permission. Once you click on the link, your entry will be part of the register.
3. Search for fellow car poolers
As soon as you’ve joined the register, you’re able to search for potential fellow car poolers. You can narrow your search down by choosing from four options: suburb, travel times, gender and whether or not the person is a smoker. For security reasons at this stage, the results will show only details from these four options plus any optional extra information the other person may have included.
4. Send an enquiry
When you find someone who you think will be a potential match, click on the send an enquiry button next to that person’s details. We’ll send that person an email with your suburb, travel times, gender, whether or not you’re a smoker and any optional extra information you’ve included.
5. Receive response
The other person then simply clicks a link in the email to confirm whether or not they want to swap details with you. If so, we’ll send an email to each of you with the other person’s name and contact details. If not, then you can search again. This is the only time when we will give your name and contact details to anyone.
6. Make contact and start car pooling
Once you have the other person’s details, it’s up to you to make contact and arrange to car pool. Click here for suggestions on car pooling etiquette.
Useful tips to bear in mind:
Note that this site is hosted on the internet externally to the QEII Medical Centre. Whilst we take precautions to try and ensure that everyone is a genuine staff member or volunteer, it is important that you take personal responsibility for your own safety especially when you first meet or begin car pooling with someone.
- Arrange to meet initially in a public place, eg; the coffee lounge
- Take along your ID badge and/or current driver’s licence to prove you work/volunteer here and have a current driver’s licence, and ask to see the other person’s ID too.
- Don’t give the other person any of your personal details, eg; home address, until you’re completely comfortable doing so. You can always arrange to be dropped off/picked up from a bus stop, street corner or other location some distance from your home.
- Always tell your friends, family or colleagues about the car pooling arrangements and tell them what time you’ll be leaving/arriving.
- Don’t start car pooling with someone unless you’re completely comfortable with them. There’s no obligation to go through with it, even if you’ve already met up. Simply look for another match on the register.
- If a problem develops with a current car pooling partner and you’re no longer comfortable with them, there is no obligation to continue car pooling. Again, you can look for another match on the register.
